Whitethread Institute for Higher Learning | Founded by Mufti Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

Whitethread Institute has recently been founded primarily with the intention of catering for ‘alims and ‘alimas, the leaders of our community.

We estimate there are at least five hundred ‘alims and ‘alimas just around the London area. There are many madrasas operating but not many that provide post-graduate courses.

For our scholars to keep abreast of contemporary challenges and remain relevant, a number of enhancement courses are necessary. Whitethread Institute is launching a number of much needed post-graduate courses after Ramadan 2017.

There will be the Ifta’ Specialisation Course, the Advanced Islamic Theology Program and the Advanced Islamic Jurisprudence Program, along with other short courses throughout the year for the women and men of the area. This is the first institute of its kind.

To get this off the ground and see the institute through its first year, we require £100,000 ( lillah donations).

Alhamdulillah, the venue is already set up and centrally located near Stratford Station in East London. Your contributions will be used to run the courses in a professional manner, provide the appropriate resources, and secure expert teachers to train our religious leaders, in order to better benefit the entire community.

We intend to make a real impact on the growth of the current community as well as be a source of strength for the Deen of future generations.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah said: ‘Spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.” (Bukhari)

What better time to donate than in the month of Ramadan when rewards are multiplied many-fold. Lets try and take advantage of the remaining days of this blessed month Insha’Allah.

Dr. Mufti Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf

Dr. Shaykh Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf Mangera is a British Muslim scholar educated in both the Islamic and Western traditions. He memorised the Qur’an by heart and graduated from the Darul Uloom seminary Bury, UK, and later earned a specialised licence to issue fatwa (legal responses) at Mazahir ‘Ulum Saharanpur, India. He earned his BA from the University of Johannesburg and completed his MA and PhD in Islamic Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. He holds an honorary fellowship at The Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, Amman, Jordan. Shaykh Abdur-Rahman has the unique experience of serving as an imam in Muslim communities on both sides of the Atlantic, eight years in Southern California and over five in the great city of London—and his continued work as an international speaker and lecturer enables him to address and offer pertinent advice on current challenges that face Muslims in the West. He is the founder of Whitethread Institute, a post-graduate insititute for Islamic scholars. He is an avid traveller and continues to teach hadith and work on scholarly publications through White Thread Press (www.whitethreadpress.com).
