Hadith Series: Purpose Of Seeking Knowledge | Mufti Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf
Remember, Ikhlas (Sincerity) is even more important when one is pursuing sacred knowledge. When we study sacred knowledge, we should be the first recipients of that knowledge. It should benefit us first. The way to make it benefit us first is to actually feel that we want it to benefit us first. Therefore, we should reflect on it first. If we’ve reflected on it then when we convey this knowledge to others, it will come out from the heart in a much more impactful way.
Hadith #224 from the famous text, Zad al-Talibin (Provisions for the Seekers):
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever seeks sacred knowledge to vie with scholars, argue with fools, or capture public notice, Allah will enter him into Hellfire.” (Zad al-Talibin, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)
