Husband Says Wife CANNOT Use Any Of The Money She Earns Without His Permission
Question
I have a Muslim friend who works. She says that her husband says that she CANNOT use any of the money she earns without his permission. She wants to know if her husband is Islamically right in imposing this restriction on her.

In the name of Allah. the Inspirer of truth.
It must be remembered that the relationship between husband and wife should not be reduced to a few laws. The relationship is one of give and take, understanding, compassion and compromise.
Technically speaking, the wealth of the wife is hers and she has the right to spend it as she desires within the lawful limits of the Shari’a. Also, since the husband is responsible for his family [wife and children], he has the right to advice her and prohibit her from squandering her wealth if she is doing that. Likewise, the wife has an Islamic right to advise and discourage her husband and children from squandering their wealth too. If she is spending within limits or giving all her money away to charity, then there is no harm in this at all. This is the general ruling to this issue. If there is a specific situation that needs to be answered then please inform us of that.
And Allah knows best.
